Agilezorb was conceived during research on energy absorbing nano-composites for helmets, bumpers, body armor, etc. Under certain conditions, due to the poor controllability of solid-solid interaction, only a small fraction of nanofiller-matrix interface area could contribute to the energy dissipation process. The search for alternate materials was inspired by the observation that at least one of the components needs to be highly “flexible,” so as to take advantage of the entire surface area of the nanoporous particles. Realizing that liquid is the most flexible material, successful experiments demonstrated that the solid-liquid interactions could be greatly amplified by using a suspension of nanoporous particles in a liquid or a gel.
